Scientific name

Rhizophora stylosa

It grows less than 10 meters in Okinawa, but occasionally trees over 25 meter tall are found in the tropics. Prop roots have a peculiar octopus-leg appearance. After the white flowers bloom, propagule, like long-shaped cucumber, will develop.

Distributed from Oceania to India. Within Japan it is only found in Okinawa.

Used for firewood, charcoals, building materials, paper materials, etc.
